What “trading options” actually means here
On listed crypto books you are not buying coins. You are buying or selling a standardized right whose value depends on strike, expiry, implied volatility, and settlement rules. Most major BTC and ETH options are European and cash-settled to an index. You open a position by trading the contract, you close by trading the opposite side (or waiting for settlement), and you never need to take delivery of coins for those products.
OptionsMatch does not place that trade. The terminal shows multi-venue marks, IV, greeks, and positioning context. Match shows which venues list which products and how fees and geo access differ. The hop from research to a live order is always an official venue ticket you control.
A repeatable six-step workflow
1) Name the view in one sentence: hedge inventory, buy a defined-risk rally, sell a range, or express that implied vol looks rich versus recent realized. If you cannot say the view, you do not have a trade — you have a ticker. 2) Pick the underlying and look at the chain on /t/{asset}/chain so you can see expiries, strikes, bid/ask, mark IV, and open interest together. 3) Choose tenor on /t/{asset}/term so you know whether the event you care about sits in the front week or further out.
4) Choose strike and structure (naked long option, vertical, straddle, etc.) using moneyness and liquidity, not because a round number looks pretty. 5) Size to a max-loss you can actually tolerate after fees — Risk lab on /t/{asset}/strategy helps you see payoff shapes without pretending they are live fills. 6) Pick a venue on /venue and /find-venue that lists the product, that you can legally use, and that has a book you can actually trade. Then execute there.
Read the market before you pick a structure
Start with spot or index context, then implied vol. ATM IV on the vol-index and IV-percentile desks tells you whether options are pricing a large or small move relative to the recent sample. Term structure shows whether the front is event-rich (backwardation) or calm (contango-like). Skew shows whether downside puts are bid versus calls.
GEX, walls, and max pain are positioning narratives, not magic levels. Use them as context after you can read premium and IV. Tape and flow desks show where premium actually traded — still not a reason to chase a print. Sources and feed badges tell you whether the numbers are live, partial, or mock. Do not size a view on a mock banner.
Defined risk versus undefined risk
Long options and debit spreads cap loss near premium paid (plus fees). Credit spreads and iron condors cap loss at width minus credit. Naked short calls and many short-vol overlays do not cap loss in any comfortable way and can demand large margin or liquidation on crypto venues. If you are still learning, stay inside defined-risk structures until you can explain the max loss in the settlement currency.
Crypto adds inverse versus linear units. Coin-margined P&L in BTC is not the same as USD P&L. Compare premiums and open interest across venues only after you know the contract multiplier and settlement asset. The inverse-vs-linear guide exists because this mistake is expensive.
Where Match fits (and what it does not do)
Open /venue for profiles (product flags, KYC notes, geo restrictions, fee commentary). Use /compare and /venue/fees for side-by-side research. Use /find-venue if you want a scored shortlist by asset, tenor, and priority. Use /countries when jurisdiction is the binding constraint. Affiliate hops via /go/{slug} may be compensated — they are still just links to third-party sites.
Match does not certify that you are allowed to open an account, that a product is available after KYC, or that a book will be liquid when you click. Always verify on the venue. OptionsMatch is not a broker and does not route orders.
Practice this on OptionsMatch
Walk BTC: /t/btc/dashboard for the command board, /t/btc/chain for contracts, /t/btc/term and /t/btc/skew for the vol surface, /t/btc/gex for positioning context, /t/btc/strategy for simulated structures, /chart/BTC for research candles, /venue for where you might trade. Repeat on ETH if that is your book.
Educational only — not financial advice. Feeds are labeled live, partial, or mock. Size, venue choice, and compliance remain yours.
