Two different machines
A centralized options venue typically custodied collateral, an off-chain matching engine, and a familiar order book. An on-chain or hybrid venue typically requires a wallet session, posts risk on-chain or to a rollup, and may mix RFQ with a book.
IV can look comparable on ATM BTC while the operational failure modes are unrelated. Compare them as systems.
Liquidity and products
Deep BTC/ETH listed OI still concentrates on major CEX books. On-chain venues can be competitive on some underlyings and thin on others. Always check the chain for the expiry you want, not the homepage TVL.
RFQ/blocks may be the real liquidity path on both sides. Terminal blocks desk is research tape, not a request-for-quote button.
Margin and liquidation
CEX portfolio margin is a black box with a manual. On-chain margin is a contract with an explorer. Both can liquidate you. On-chain adds smart-contract and sequencer risk; CEX adds custodian and API-key risk.
Read liquidation-risk once, then read the venue you picked twice.
Wallet and phishing
On-chain options mean signature prompts. Session signatures should not move funds; unlimited allowances and mystery operator roles should stop you. Hardware wallets reduce blast radius. See hardware-wallets and phishing-and-malicious-links.

Match catalog handling
Derive, Paradex, and similar names have Match profiles under /v/{slug}. The Derive trader explorer at /derive is a separate research surface (public tape), not the Match profile. Do not confuse them for SEO or for your own navigation.
Best-for on-chain: /v/best-for/on-chain. Still verify listings.
Practice this on OptionsMatch
Compare product flags on /v/deribit versus /v/derive and /v/paradex. On-chain desk /t/btc/onchain is market structure research, not a venue. Education only.
Onboarding guides exist per venue — use those next.
